Using “email marketing” to export your products & services
One of the many hats I had to wear in my 1st job 8 years ago was “international communications”; it was indeed the one skill that taught me a lot about “business etiquette”, “cultures”, and “people”.
Consequently, I was able to persuade tens of foreign companies to either form partnerships or participate by paying substantial bid bonds. I even got a company to send us a free sample (worth $300), and trust me when I say: this is super rare with the Chinese!
I did all of that using “كتابة بَيعيّة”!!
But how can you practically use this skill to form profitable partnerships & export more products (or start exporting in the 1st place)?
Assuming you have a killer product, you’ve conducted your competitive analysis and market research, and your business model is set, you’re now ready to align your business model canvas with a content strategy. I’ll create a brochure to help you with that in the next articles, don’t worry. Then, you can move on to copywriting for different channels, including email.
People work with people. This is the one fact you need to remember.
Cross that, print it out and post it on your desk!

Before you start, you need to truly comprehend those:
My 1st manager taught me to read the name of the sender and note the spilling. It’s a sign of respect to put in the effort to note the small details, and it reflects directly on the company (the person) receiving your email on the other end.

Actually, ignoring small details like (calling someone Mrs. or Ms. or Miss) or not mentioning Eng. or Dr. can go a long way to “frustrate” the receiver, and this will reflect on your “sales cycle” for sure!
Familiarizing yourself and your team with the culture of a country, the way a surname or first name is used, and the traditions and religions is the place to start.
- Use language that is familiar and comfortable to your target audience. Avoid direct translations that might sound awkward or even offensive.
- Consider the cultural norms of your target audience when choosing your tone. Some cultures prefer a more formal tone, while others are more informal.
- These can be difficult to translate and may not have the same meaning in another culture.
- Understand the core values and beliefs of your target culture. This will help you create messaging that resonates with them.
- Steer clear of stereotypes and generalizations about the target culture. This can be offensive and alienate your audience.
- Choose images that are culturally appropriate and respectful. Avoid using images that may be offensive or misunderstood in another culture.
- Familiarize yourself with local business customs and etiquette. This includes things like greeting practices, gift-giving, and negotiation styles.
- Be mindful of time zones when scheduling meetings or sending emails.
- Avoid scheduling important events or campaigns during religious or cultural holidays.
Now, you’re ready to write emails!!
Writing emails for the purpose of selling (persuading) should not be taken lightly. You don’t want to sound “salesy”, “ scammy”, or “just like every other product or service provider”.
You also need to understand that emails need to be a “sequence”. Each email is triggered by the target customer doing an action (opening an email, clicking a link, downloading the attachment, or replying).

For “copywriting”, I advise you to:
- Create a unique series of 4-5 emails for each stage of the sales cycle.
- For each target customer (buyer persona), write a different “template” and share them with your whole team.
- Depending on which stage of the sales cycle you’re writing for, include the unique selling points of your products/services, how it can help the customer in this specific segment.
- ADD VALUE. The target customer needs to benefit from your emails. So always, even when you’re selling, aim to add value.
- Keep developing the copy. Based on the analytics, keep developing the copy, until you have a customized copy that “SELLS”; which is the whole goal of copywriting to begin with!!
- Plz don’t write an email using AI! Artificial intelligence is a tool that helps you write content. Even us “copywriters” use it everyday!! But like any tool out there, you have to learn how to use it and apply it in your daily life for it to help you. A machine is not a human, and in order to persuade a human, you need to WRITE LIKE ONE.
- Avoid sending attachments in the 1st few emails (until you build trust).
🧩 🧩 🧩 🧩 🧩 🧩
For “business writing”, I advise you to:
- Depending on the culture of the people you’re talking to, consider transforming from cold to warm (personal)
- Always: balance between assertiveness and empathy.
- If there is a misunderstanding in correspondence (especially in the beginning), simply pick up the phone and resolve the issue. Then document the call with an email.
- Take into consideration the “occupation” of the person you’re communicating with, and use the suitable language (technical terms or simple language) respectively.
